Dealing with Youth Violence in Chicago – a meeting of nonprofits and media outlets

Have you ever wanted to talk with a reporter covering youth violence? How do we tell the story about youth violence in Chicago?

The Community Media Workshop‘s youth violence project is inviting journalists to meet with community groups, activists and specialists on Tuesday, January 29, 2013. We will meet from 10 am to Noon at 618 S. Michigan, Stage Two, at Columbia College.

We will look at the progress made by Chicago’s news media and what more can be done. This is part of our efforts to change the reporting on youth violence and to help communities better understand how the news media function. The goal is to help the news media expand its contacts, hear from folks close to the issue, think about new ways to tell this terribly important story and to begin to look as solutions as well as problems.

If you want to provide any information at the meeting or know more about the event, please contact Steve Franklin –
