Calling yourself a non-profit news outlet isn’t so easy
You had it with the mainstream media. Phuh on their money!!!
Or you are starting anew and this is going to be your voice, your embrace of truth, your chance to tell the truth.
Without making money. Or without making a lot of money. Or by calling yourself a non-profit news publication.
Or, say you are a non-profit and you are going to mix in some money from advertisers and you want to keep your tax status.
You may have problems with the Internal Revenue Service and you may be among a heap of others.

As community news outlets discover that they need more than grants and community funds to exist, they are looking into the kind of revenue mix that apparently calls for careful footing.
